This course is an extension of our Java course and covers advanced topics like servlets, JSP, JDBC in detail. A servlet is a Java programming language class used to extend the capabilities of a server. Although servlets can respond to any types of requests, they are commonly used to extend the applications hosted by web servers, so they can be thought of as Java Applets that run on servers instead of in web browsers. These kinds of servlets are the Java counterpart to non-Java dynamic Web content technologies such as PHP, ASP.NET.
Servelts process or store data that was submitted from an HTML form, provides dynamic content such as the results of a database query and manages state information that does not exist in the stateless HTTP protocol, such as filling the articles into the shopping cart of the appropriate customer.
JavaServer Pages (JSP) is a technology that helps software developers create dynamically generated web pages based on HTML, XML, or other document types. JSP is similar to PHP, but it uses the Java programming language. Architecturally, JSP may be viewed as a high-level abstraction of Java servlets. JSPs are translated into servlets at runtime; each JSP's servlet is cached and re-used until the original JSP is modified.
JDBC(Java-based data access technology) is an API for the Java programming language that defines how a client may access a database. It provides methods for querying and updating data in a database. JDBC is oriented towards relational databases.
